The Sweater Weather: Here’s How To Look Stylish In Your Sweaters During Autumn
Autumn is one of our favourite times of the year, because it means sweater weather.
The cold weather is here and it’s time to warm up with some stylish looks. During the autumn, many people tend to dress up a bit more. This is particularly the case if you are headed out to see the fall foliage or plan on attending an outdoor event. There’s nothing wrong with dressing up but there is something that makes it more fun when you get to wear sweaters.
But before you run out and buy that sweater, check out these tips on how to wear your sweaters when the weather turns chilly. Discover out here how to look stylish in your sweaters and cardigans during autumn.
Find the Perfect Sweater
First, you have to find the perfect sweater. It’s very important.
You should always make sure your sweater is the right size for your body type and height. If you’re tall and long-limbed, don’t pick out a short-sleeved button-down or cardigan; instead, go with something long enough in length that covers your lower half (and maybe even an extra inch or two). If you’re shorter than average and have broad shoulders, avoid sweaters with sleeves that are too tight—they’ll only accentuate how much wider they make you look (and nobody wants to wear anything that makes them feel self-conscious).
A good rule of thumb is that if it looks good on you, it will look great on you.
Pair with Jeans
The best thing about sweaters is how easy they are to style— you don’t need much else besides some boots or heels (and maybe even some sunglasses) if you want something sophisticated yet comfortable. Pairing them with jeans gives off this cool vibe that makes everyone want one in their closet too.
You can wear a sweater with jeans, but pair it with a collared shirt or t-shirt so you don’t look too fussy. It helps to create a cohesive look. If you’re feeling more daring than usual, match the colour of your sweater to your jeans for an added pop of brightness.
Belt It
A belt can be an easy way to add some colour, shape and style to your look. There are many different types of belts you can wear with your sweater weather outfit:
- Wide belts are great for adding a pop of colour. They’ll also elongate and define your silhouette, making it feel like you’re wearing something more formal than what’s actually on the hanger.
- Skinny belts are fun because they’re unexpected but still look chic when paired with skinny jeans or pants in similar colours as those in your sweater weather ensemble (think gray).
- Narrow belts will give off that “I’m not wearing anything over here” vibe that we all love so much during the autumn/winter months. Try pairing this style with black pants or jeggings so people don’t think too much about how badly their friend is trying hard enough at looking stylishly casual today…
Wear It as a Topper over a Turtleneck and Pants
A topper is a sweater that you wear as an accessory over another item of clothing. In this case, your undergarment choice would be the turtleneck and pants ensemble. You can also wear it with a dress if you want to make things more formal—or just add it on top of jeans and sneakers for an easy everyday look.
There are many different ways to wear these sweaters: layered over shirts, as outerwear alone (like our example here), or even doubled up. The possibilities are endless.
